I foresee many changes and disruptions coming to San Diego in 2026. Some plans will terminate by the end of this year. UCSD Medical Group and Humana announced a while back that they will end their contract by the end of this year, too. You will or should have received the Annual Notice of Change (ANOC) letter from your insurance company about the new changes in 2026. Please review it carefully to find out what they are.
Below are the plans in San Diego County that will terminate by the end of this year:
1. UnitedHealthcare PPO 0035
2. Humana Choice PPO 076
3. Blue Shield Select PPO
4. UCSD Health Humana HMO will transition to Humana Gold Plus plan
If your current Medicare plan is any of the above (except the UCSD Humana plan), you need to find a new Medicare plan for 2026. You’ll also be entitled to a Special Enrollment Period (SEP) outside the Annual Enrollment Period (Oct 15-Dec 7) to enroll in a new Medicare plan or a guaranteed acceptance to a Medicare Supplement. If you do nothing, starting January 1, 2026, you’ll have only Original Medicare and no prescription coverage.
